Lake Manyara National Park
Bordering the 90-square-mile lake of the same name, the park is home to over 400 different bird species. Particularly impressive are the thousands of Lesser and Greater Flamingos. Many other bird species can be observed here, such as great cormorants, pink-backed pelicans, and Marabou storks. You will also see lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, and hippos, as well as herds of wildebeest, zebra, and Thompson’s and Grant’s gazelles.

Ngorongoro Crater
Just beyond the steep slopes of the East African Rift Valley, above Lake Manyara, the vast Ngorongoro Crater comes into view. A 600-meter descent takes you into the world’s largest unbroken caldera. Depending on the season, 15,000 to 25,000 animals gather at the base of Ngorongoro. Here you will have your best chance of seeing Africa’s Big Five: lions, elephants, buffaloes, black rhinos, and leopards.

Olduvai Gorge
Located between the Ngorongoro Crater and the eastern side of the Serengeti plain, the Olduvai Gorge is often called the “Cradle of Mankind,” for it is where Louis and Mary (Nicol) Leakey discovered the fossil remains of some of our earliest human ancestors, from 1.6 to 1.8 million years ago. This spectacular ravine, 48 km wide and 90 meters deep, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and has provided anthropologists with the most continuous known record of human evolution.

Serengeti National Park
One of the most famous game parks in Africa, the Serengeti’s name is derived from the Maasai word “seringit,” meaning “endless plain.” This stunning grassland is host to the Great Wildebeest Migration. In addition, over 1.5 million wildebeest, 200,000 zebras, 500,000 gazelles, 7,500 hyenas, 4,000 lions, 1,000 leopards, 500 cheetahs, and 500 bird species thrive in this 15,000 square kilometer wonderland.

Tarangire National Park
Tarangire is the 6th largest park in Tanzania and a former colonial hunting ground. The park is home to one of the largest elephant populations in the north of Tanzania. The diverse ecosystem includes tree-climbing lions, cheetahs, more than 500 bird species, impressive baobab trees, acacia forests, and species-rich wetlands. With some luck, you may spot leopards!
